Gara Roda, Choreographer
Gara Roda has been an actress and a singer in different musical theatre productions in Spain such as Cabaret, Sister Act, Bare, a pop opera; Josafat, Goodbye Barcelona and others. She has been teaching and choreographing for the Basel Dance Academy for three years and last year she choreographed her first concert in Switzerland: We are Women. Back home she choreographed regional shows like Shrek, the musical or the review of Smash amongst others. Gara moved recently to New York to study at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts. She is thrilled to be part of this project and hopes you enjoy the show!
Richard Brown, Producer
Richard Brown is the producer and has been an actor, musician, director, producer, writer, stage manager and light and sound tech in Basel for the last 10 years with Semi Circle, Basel English Panto and Yardbird Theatre as well as playing in some bar bands in the region.
Kim Povall, Costume Designer
Kim Povall is a graduate of Hinckley College in England and has been featured in numerous theatre productions including the Tempest, Blood Brothers, and Zoom.
In addition to being an avid writer, her creative endeavors expand into the theatre. She has made and designed clothing for over 10 years and is delighted to be a part of this production.
Susan Brownfield, Co-Director
Susan Brownfield is thrilled at the chance to share directing responsibilities in this production of “Side by Side by Sondheim.” An avid Sondheim fanatic, Susan began her directing debut as the head of the Opera Workshop program at Clark University in Massachusetts, USA. After leaving her stint at Clark University, Susan went on to serve on the faculty at Bates College in Maine, USA.
Teaching and performing are both important to Susan. She maintains an active performing schedule here in Basel while also teaching in her private studio and at the Bilingual Kids Academy. She has directed numerous children’s choirs and enjoys working with youth. Susan also serves on the Management Board of the Ardenza Foundation (BG).
Susan has directed song workshops and recently directed a short play entitled, “Left to Right” by Steven Dietz with Upstart Entertainment in Basel.
Nina Bradlin, Co-Director
Nina Bradlin first studied directing with Hilary Cohen in the drama department at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. In her final year, Nina directed the “Basement Arts” world premiere of the musical “Contemporary Furnishings” by Kipp Koenig (with whom Nina had appeared in the Sondheim musical “A Little Night Music”) and featuring future Tony Award nominees Hunter Foster and Jennifer Laura Thompson.
In Basel, Nina has directed short plays for the English-speaking theatre group “Semi-Circle” and she is also a director and theater educator at Gymnasium am Münsterplatz, Basel (“1984”, “And Then There Were None”, “Frankenstein”, “Momo”, “Kasimir und Karoline”), where her focus is on teaching stage awareness, vocal and body control and confidence-building as part of the theatrical process.
“Side by Side by Sondheim” is the culmination of Nina’s love affair with the music of Sondheim and she feels very privileged to be part of this incredible team presenting his wonderful music to Basel audiences.
Tiffany Butt, Musical Director
A lover of all things theater, Tiffany Butt has wide-ranging and extensive experience in opera and dance as musical coach, accompanist, and arranger. During her tenure as pianist of FrontStage at the Musikhochschule Basel, she was fortunate to have collaborated with directors Frank Hilbrich, Regina Heer, and Tom Schneider of Theater Basel. Recent highlights include DanceRuption! with choreographer Joaquin Crespo Lopes at the Staatsballet Berlin and musical direction of Der Schauspieldirektor with Upstart Entertainment Basel. Since 2012 Tiffany has been on faculty at the prestigious Tanz-Akademie at the Zürcher Hochschule der Künste, as accompanist, coach, and lecturer.
Dragana Blaser, Set Designer
Dragana is an interior and set designer and has been living in Basel since 2002. After working in London for fifteen years as an architect, Dragana settled in Basel, where she discovered her love for scenography, particularly for designing physical surroundings which influence or are influenced by the dramatic action. Since then her design versatility has been seen in over fifteen theater productions for many of the theater groups including Happyville, Semi–Circle and the Basel Panto Group.
Dragana has completed degrees in Architecture and has a Master of Arts in Integrated Design from FHNW Basel. If you would like to know more about her work please visit www.db-interior.com.
Michi Studer, Lighting Designer
Michi was born in 1973 in Basel. He is a musician, composer and sound engineer.
He studied piano with Dölf Helios Kessler and at the Jazz School in Basel. Afterwards he worked at Tonton GmbH and Corporate Sound ag as a sound engineer. From 2002 to 2007, he worked as a musician, sound engineer, and theatre technician at the Vorstadttheater in Basel.
He is currently active as a musician, composer, and sound engineer. He is also the technical director of the Internationales Figurentheaterfestival in Basel.
